Hello and welcome to my website! Here you can find out more about my writing and the places which have inspired it. There will probably also be some discussion about wild swimming — or swimming as we used to call it! I also blog about places that I have visited. I live on the west coast of Scotland and enjoy wild swimming as often as the weather co-operates! (A very thick wetsuit, socks and gloves are a definite requirement here!)

Most of my stories start with a place, rather than plot or characters, so I’ll be sharing my impressions of the different places I have visited and chatting about any links they have with my stories. There will be a mix of current visits and sites visited over the past couple of years as, for some strange reason, I haven’t been out and about very much this year yet! Sometimes these are historic sites, both intact and ruined, and other times they are simply places that I have visited for other reasons. On each of these posts there will also be a writing prompt with an idea to get you started with your own writing about place.

My first novel, The Viking’s Cursed Bride, was published in October 2019 and is available from Tirgearr Publishing by clicking the link. The second book in the series, The Viking’s Warrior Bride, was published in May 2021.

Throughout July my publisher is having a sale at Smashwords — so head on down and pick up a copy of either at a bargain price!

I also love writing short stories and flash fiction and recently was runner-up in the Jane Austen Literacy Federation’s short story competition. You can hear my story on Audible here – all monies go to support the work of the JALF.

You can also find me on Twitter as @MairibethM and on Facebook as Mairibeth MacMillan.
